October 01 2007 - Lost at Sea Installation.
Lost at Sea,the soundtrack CD by Cane141, the collaborative installation by Roisin Coyle and Cane141, October '07 - Galway and Dublin.
Lost at Sea is an audio/visual collaboration by two Galway artists, Roisin Coyle, visuals/illustrations and Michael Smalle [Cane141] audio/music.
First shown at the Project '06 festival in Galway last year, it has since exhibited in May 2007 at the GraceSpace Gallery Brooklyn NYC.
Finally next month sees the launch of the exhibition's soundtrack, in effect the fourth record from Cane141, with two happenings in Galway and Dublin.
Whilst writing the more orthodox follow-on record from the 2005 Choice-nominated MoonPool, which will be ready in early 2008, Cane141 embarked on this more experimental body of work themed on the visual images of artist Roisin Coyle.
October sees this record being made available nationally through both a launch night in Nimmo's restaurant Galway (as part of Artisit?) on the 4th of October with a Cane141-inspired ambient dj set, featuring visuals from Lost at Sea plus a live performence from Chequerboard. ( www.myspace.com/chequerboardmusic)
Then later in the month in the grounds of IMMA Kilmainham, Dublin as part of the "Some Days Never End" [7 days and 7 nights of Music and Warhol] there will be a unique intimate installation of the work on show for the duration.

The Choice Music Prize is a new award which has
been established to celebrate and acknowledge the work of Irish musicians.
The Choice Music Prize aims to highlight those albums which deserve some
extra time in the spotlight and, ultimately, to select the album which best
sums up the year in Irish music
Instead of using sales or airplay as criteria, the Choice Music Prize will
focus, simply and solely, on the music.
The Choice Music Prize is co-ordinated by Dave Reid and Jim Carroll.
The shortlist is as follows (in alphabetical order)
Bell X1 "Flock" (Island)
Cane 141 "Moonpool" (Exceptional)
The Chalets "Check-In" (Setanta)
Joe Chester "A Murder of Crows" (Barp)
Duke Special "Adventures In Gramophone" (Hag)
Julie Feeney "13 Songs" (Self-released)
Hal "Hal" (Rough Trade)
Nick Kelly "Running Dog" (Self Possessed)
Emmett Tinley "Attic Faith" (Independent Records)
Turn "Turn" (Setanta)
The shortlist has been selected by a panel of 12 media professionals
representing Irish print, radio and TV from the four corners of the island.
The overall Album of the Year will be selected by this judging panel at the
Choice Music Prize event at Vicar Street, Dublin on Tuesday February 28th.

March 22 2005 - (Taken from Exceptional Records Press Release) Exceptional Records are very pleased to welcome Cane 141 to their label stable.
This EP, The Hot is Too Hot , has been lifted from their forthcoming album Moon Pool. The diversity of the tracks on this EP gives some real insight in Cane 141's approach to music making, their experimental edge and depth.
- A1: The Hot is too Hot
- A2: Joe Meek Shall inherit the Earth
- B: Cycle Mall (Remix of The Hot Is Too Hot by Irish electronic artist Keith o' Brien a.k.a Amoebazoid)
Cane 141 mutated in Galway, initially as a group of likeminded vinyl junkies then adding instruments to the mix and forming what could loosely be defined as a band. Cane 141 are the current slimmed down line-up a three piece of, Colm on drums, Sandra on reed instruments, Mike on keys/guitars/fx.
They have had several releases and through these and their sporadic live shows they have developed a fairly devout following.
They have also had a couple of sessions on the late John Peel's Radio 1 show as well as a couple of XFM sessions, Dave Fanning RTE sessions and some strong support from Radio 1's Chris Coco, who included a track on The Blue Room compilation. Their single New Day Parade was The Guardian's single of month…
They finished recording their forthcoming album, Moon Pool late in 2004, which Exceptional will be releasing in the summer of 2005.
Release information: Artist: Cane 141; Title: The Hot is Too Hot EP; Format: 7”; Release date: 09/05/05; Distribution: Pinnacle; Label: Exceptional Records.
